ACCA is introducing the new Strategic Business Leader (SBL) exam; a new groundbreaking innovative case study in the September 2018 sitting. It features the real world challenges future accountants will face. The syllabus incorporates essential professional capabilities and assesses students on communication and analytical skills too.

A lot of information is available online about this new exam and there is a buzz in the air about how this exam is different from P1 and P3. What are students and tutors hearing? That it is longer than the regular ACCA exams. This paper is going to be the most challenging Strategic paper. And more such feedback which is understandably giving some students the jitters.

One case study: First off, take a deep breath and relax. Remember, the whole exam is one case study. In the past, students had to look at multiple cases and scenarios in the ACCA P1 and P3 papers. This left students struggling to remember what they had read in each case study because they were all completely different.

One extra hour: The Strategic Business Leader exam is four hours long. So now you have one extra hour to do the same 100 marks worth of writing. If time management was your major concern in the past, you now have extra 60 minutes to be utilised wisely.

16 more professional marks: There is more good news! The SBL exam has 20 professional marks as compared to the 4 professional marks in ACCA P1 and P3 papers. These are based on your ability to showcase your communication skills, commercial acumen, analysis, scepticism and evaluation in the exam. These can be easily mastered by learning the right language patterns and presenting these skills in the right wat.
