Sriram Vempati is a UAE VAT Compliance Diploma holder at PwC’s Academy.

Why did you decide to pursue the UAE VAT Compliance Diploma?

Tax is the buzzword in GCC currently. One needs to be equipped with the knowledge in Tax, be in it on the technical front or on compliance, and it is imperative that your learning is coming from a credible and recognised source. The VAT Compliance Diploma is the only accredited tax qualification in the UAE, and it is recognised by the FTA. In addition, it was being offered by PwC, known tax experts in the region and globally. So I decided to pursue this qualification.

How has the Diploma equipped you for your current role and your future prospects?

Most of my experience is in implementation of Oracle Financials Technologies which includes tax implementations. The Diploma gave me a deeper understanding of the tax laws, and this knowledge, accompanied by my digital skills, enabled me to become an all rounded 'Tax Implementor'. This diploma gave me more confidence in my current role and expanded my horizon to address technical aspects of my business. It has further strengthened my position in the company and I’m confident it will support my growth as well.

In your opinion, how should organisations and individuals prepare themselves for the evolving tax landscape?

Organisations or individuals need to look at the history of matured tax regimes and understand how they evolved with time. This will help them to predict the next phase of evolution and be prepared in terms of people, technology and resources. The key for adoption is being prepared and upskilling yourself and your teams.
