Case study: HCT Youth Leadership Programme


The need:

The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), in line with the UAE Government’s Emiratisation Agenda to develop the UAE Nationals Leaders of Tomorrow, wanted to introduce a visionary initiative - A Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLDP). Their goal was to invest in upskilling the brightest young Emirati minds from HCT to become future business leaders. 

HCT’s key requirement was a training solution provider who could go beyond academic teaching and offer a practical, results-driven, corporate focused experiential learning journey. 


Our solution: 

The participants were UAE National graduate students from varied disciplines such as Marketing, HR and Engineering. What was common amongst this promising group of individuals was their desire to learn, to innovate, and to think like a visionary.


We aimed to inspire in them a mindset change from being academic high-performers to becoming future business leaders. To this end, we partnered with HCT to design, develop and deliver an impactful 10 days leadership development programme in which the participants learnt how to become: Agile Leaders, Open to the World, Disruptive Innovators, Futurists, Results driven. 


Their learning journey, divided into 5 modules over 9 months*, was a blend of face-to-face and live online classroom training*. Participants studied leadership fundamentals and learnt their practical application with industry experts and veteran PwC trainers. They learnt about global best practices and reflected on the regional implications through case studies, visualised leadership scenarios through gamified learning, participated in invigorating group discussions and exchanged ideas through a range of virtual and offline group activities facilitated by mentors. 


Highlight: Capstone project

As the training progressed, participants brought their learning to life with a Capstone Project: Learning from Leading Universities of the World.


Divided into 3 groups and guided by a corporate mentor, they researched premier higher education institutions from Japan, USA, Singapore and UK on 3 key themes: 

Humanitarianism, Foresight and Innovation. After a detailed analysis, each group developed case studies on one initiative per theme. They ran feasibility studies to understand their regional impact and developed  a practical implementation plan with detailed recommendations to apply these global learnings to UAE Universities. These submissions were reviewed by and presented to a panel of senior decision makers from HCT and PwC.



The training programme received an exceptional feedback score of 4.9/ 5 (98%) from the participants. The sponsors highly appreciated our commitment to deliver a results-oriented learning solution tailored to their needs and our agile training delivery despite being disrupted by Covid-19.


The participants received certificates of achievement upon completion of the programme in a virtual graduation ceremony. Their capstone projects are to be presented to a panel of senior decision makers in HCT, who will select the most relevant project for implementation - a great honour for our future business leaders.

*The original programme was a 4 months face-to-face training programme. Due to the disruption to classroom training caused by Covid-19, the training was suspended for a brief period. Our Agile project Management and delivery team transformed this into a Live Online Classroom programme with high levels of engagement and gave HCT a seamless online learning experience.
